March 2002: First Musical e Arts Contest - MAPUTO

On the 31st March 2002 the youth of Mana Christian Church, from Maputo ran their first musical e arts contest. The event was held at the main church in Alto Mâe, however youth from the surrounding areas of Maputo including Maxaquene, Jardim, Infulene, Polana and Matola also entered.

The youth demonstrated a wide range of talents which God has given them, "most songs had an evangelical theme but they were all originally written by the young artists" commented one youth. There was a rap group, several solo and duet singers, the youth band from Alto Mae made a guest appearance and there was even some poetry in their local dialect.

Each contestant had to present their number to a "fierce" panel of judges consisting of four member, some of the judges were from Alto Mae main praise and worship group. The event was hugely enjoyed by all the youth attending -who came to support their church representatives "Foi bom para participar , era um ambiente bem agradável e divertido ….foi muito fixe" commented Nelson, a youth member of Alto Mae.

Near the end a winner and two runners up were chosen and awarded a music cassette.

But that was the end …….the grand finale was the food!!!!
Everyone celebrated with a party. Indeed it was a time for "all the youth of Maputo to come together in unity. Together we can stay firm in Jesus."
